We are a Christian, home-educating family of six living in Surrey, United Kingdom.

My name is Teresa, and I’m from Sri Lanka. My parents moved to the Middle East when I was 4 where I lived for more than 3 decades. I’m a bit of an introvert and I love structure and routine, reading books, and cups of tea.

My husband is a Londoner who loves to play the piano and sing. In his spare time, he enjoys writing poetry and formulating frameworks and strategies for solving entrepreneurial problems! There’s nothing he enjoys more than a good cup of coffee and giving a lecture or two about their single or multi-origin (read: coffee snob!).

We have four rambunctious children who are currently 12, 10, 9, and 4 years old.

From left to right: Theodore, Thomas, Teresa, Talitha, Timothy, and Vaughn!

I started this blog in 2020 in the middle of the pandemic, a few months after we had made an international move from the UAE to the UK. One of the benefits of staying at home during the pandemic was the ability to test out homeschooling.
After much thought, prayer and discussion, we realised that this was the route we wanted to take to educate our children.

Fast forward to the year 2025, it is now more than 5 years since we started our home education journey. It has been full of adventures, challenges, heartaches, and valuable lessons learnt – about us as parents and of our children. Home educating circles love to the say that as parents we “reclaim our own education” when we start teaching our kids. That has certainly been the case for me. My mind has been challenged, sharpened, and expanded along the way.

Please join me as I blog my way through our homeschooling journey.

And welcome to the Marles Schoolhouse!
